Montreal, April 23 – In response to a decline in the pass rate for the French Language of Instruction (FLE) written ministry exam, Alloprof will be hosting La Grande révision, a live exam prep event, on social media on May 5. This new initiative will give students in Secondary II (Grade 8) and Secondary V (Grade 11) the opportunity to ask all of their questions and get helpful tips for passing their French ministry exams.
The event will be hosted by comedian Dom Babin and Rosianne Arseneau, a digital pedagogy expert specializing in French at Alloprof, who will answer the most common questions from students and review everything they need to remember to go into their exam with confidence. The livestream will be simulcast on TikTok and Instagram, starting at 7 p.m. for Secondary II students and 8 p.m. for Secondary V students. The recording will be posted on Alloprof’s YouTube channel and website the following day.
“With La Grande révision, we want to give high schoolers an extra helping hand by reducing their stress and providing them with effective study tools, as well as giving them a fun experience with Dom Babin,” explains Sandrine Faust, Alloprof’s Executive Director. “And thanks to the social media campaign we’ll be running in the lead-up to the event, even the most disengaged students will want to get started early!”
Educational Tools and a Digital Campaign to Reach Students
For its social media campaign, Alloprof produced six videos with comedian Dom Babin. Each video addresses common student concerns, such as what will be on the exam, study tips, and what to bring to the exam. They’ll be posted successively on platforms frequently used by high schoolers in the days before the ministry’s preparation booklet is distributed, to create an optimal study path that ends with the livestream.
The goal of this campaign is to encourage students to use Alloprof’s many free resources, such as info sheets on the Sec. II and Sec. V ministry exams, to prepare for their exams. “We also want students to get in the habit of asking our teachers for help with tricky concepts before exam day!” says Sandrine Faust. In addition, during the end-of-year exam period, students will be able to ask Alloprof’s teachers their questions for free via chat, as the organization will be extending its hours of operation. Teachers will be available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. the day of the event and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m Monday to Thursday, as well as Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m, beginning on May 6 until June 19.
Enhanced Support for French
La Grande révision is part of the Allofrançais initiative, which aims to help students improve their French language skills. In addition to extending its operating hours in order to answer more questions from struggling students, Alloprof has:
- Doubled its team of teachers dedicated to answering student questions about French
- Developed nearly 600 new resources, including exercises, concept sheets, and videos
- Launched new free in-class workshops to introduce students to its support tools for French
- Hosted its first teacher webinar
“Alloprof has been helping young people succeed for nearly 30 years. At a time when Quebec students need more help with French than ever, we’re thrilled to support Alloprof’s work,” says Minister of Education Bernard Drainville.
