Control is an electrical function performed by any electrical component that opens and closes an electric circuit in a system.

Control is generally provided by a switch.

A switch is an electrical device with a movable conductive part. The position of this movable part determines whether the circuit is open or closed.

An electrical circuit composed of a battery, an open switch and a bulb that is turned off.

When the movable part is not in contact with the rest of the switch, the circuit is open and the current is not flowing

When the movable part is in contact with the rest of the switch, the circuit is closed and the current is flowing.
